Sydney Uni Ultimate Frisbee League (SUUFL) celebrated its third
season with a
highly
competitive nine week competition at Tempe
Reserve held through Semester 1
2005.
Reflecting the rising interest of our sport in
the Inner West and at Sydney Uni,
this
season saw the competition expand from six to
eight teams, bolstered by a group
of
keen first-timers.
Prior to the commencement of league, a
three-week 'Learn2Play' session was run
by Matt Faulkner to introduce
new players to the sport through drills and games in a
casual environment. Judging
from the number of beginners attending these sessions
who made it through to the
SUUFL final, Learn2Play was highly successful in developing
the core skills important in
competitive ultimate.
In the SUUFL grand final, held on 15th
June, Semester 2 2004 runners-up Misfit
Warriors won their first title
in a somewhat one-sided 14-5 battle against a gallant
TBC. Whilst a small crowd
munched on pizza and sipped beers, Misfits ran TBC ragged
with a fast flowing game,
clinching a win over the team which had narrowly beaten
them in Week 5 of the season.
The final placings were as follows:
1) Misfit Warriors
2) TBC
3) DiskHeads
4) Mile High
5) Pinky & Brains
6) Zoltan
7) F.C.U.T.S.
8) Pollywobblers
The spirit with which Ultimate is played is an
important part of our sport due to the
absence of referees. The
closeness of this season's competition for Spirit points was
certainly a testament to the
spirit with which all SUUFL teams played their games.
Spirit was hotly contested by
four teams, with Zoltan taking the title ahead of Mile
High, Pollywobblers and Pinky &
Brains.
So, another excellent season SUUFL! The success
and growth of SUUFL is in no
small way a reflection of the
hard work of league commissioner Anson Chun. Thank
you and well done Anson!
A new season of SUUFL kicks off early in
Semester 2. Further information about the
